In celebration of Pride this month, we’ll be supporting and running some special events throughout June. Pride commemorates the riots held by members of the LGBTQ community against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969.

What are we doing this month?

The Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI) is the UK’s leading employer network covering all aspects of equality and inclusion issues in the workplace. Last year they held a webinar on what it means to be an LGBTQ+ ally. This time they’ll be hosting a webinar on LGTBQ+ UK terminology on Wednesday 23 June.

Our organisation is proud to be a member of ENEI and to offer this free event to employees. We put diversity and inclusion at the heart of what we do, and we believe it's important that LGBTQ+ terminology is understood and respected in our collective pursuit for equality.

Kaleidoscope

Our internal LGBTQ+ network is called Kaleidoscope – the name reflecting on the beauty of an array of colours, like those used in the Pride flag.

From enhancing our workplace policies and procedures, to offering training and support to staff, Kaleidoscope offers a welcome space to connect and share ideas.

Our mission is to ensure our organisation is an inclusive place to work where everyone can be their authentic self, without fear of discrimination.

Member Q&A

We used this month as a great opportunity to get to know some of our Kaleidoscope members. The theme of the Q&A was allyship and LGBTQ+ pop culture, and encouraged everyone to think about the significance of these two things.

“Being an ally goes beyond expressing passive support; it's a commitment to advocate for others. It's about choosing to visibly and vocally stand-up for the rights of others, call out bias, misconceptions and unacceptable behaviour, and use your voice to help create understanding, shift mind-sets and drive change.” Kaleidoscope member
“Allies are so important, not just to the LGBTQ+ community but to all diverse groups. It starts with being open to conversations that create a greater understanding.” Kaleidoscope member

Watch this space

We'll be sharing more Pride content throughout the month, including the story behind the LGBTQ+ flag, and the lives of significant people in the LGBTQ+ community past and present.
