The Department for Work and Pensions has today announced the appointment of Joanne Segars as Chair of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) from 1 July 2026. Joanne will take over from Kate Jones who steps down as Chair at the end of June after a remarkable 10 years on the Board, five years as Chair.
Joanne brings nearly 40 years executive and non-executive experience of pensions and financial services and is currently Chair of Trustees at now:pensions, Chair of the Independent Governance Committee at Legal & General, and former Chair of LGPS Central Ltd, the asset manager serving local authority pension funds across the Midlands. She also serves on the pension fund governing body at CERN and as Trustee and Deputy Chair of the Royal Photographic Society.
In her executive career Joanne held senior roles at the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (now Pensions UK) where she was Chief Executive, the Association of British Insurers, Pensions Policy Institute and TUC amongst others - she is used to working closely with government, regulators and industry to help shape pensions policy and improve outcomes for savers. Her appointment supports our important work in protecting members of eligible defined benefit pension schemes and working with government, schemes, employers and advisers across the UK to improve outcomes.
